Canine Mystery Respiratory Illness

At As the Fur Flies, we are monitoring the outbreak of the mystery respiratory illness that is currently affecting dogs in the northwest, northeast, and Colorado. While most of the precautions we are taking are our normal operating procedures all year, we want to reiterate what we do to keep your pets safe while they are in our care and emphasize that we are taking this very seriously.

  1. We ask that any pets that are not feeling 100%, particularly if they are having any cough or other breathing issues, please let us know right away and stay home until they feel better. If any pets arrive and are having issues, we will send them home immediately.

  2. Our groomers all work one-on-one and by appointment, so they are not handling other pets during your dog’s appointment and have time to clean between pets.

  3. We do not allow the animals to socialize in the building. They can play with their groomer, but not each other! There is no sharing of toys, water bowls, or anything else.

  4. We always clean and sanitize the grooming area and tools between pets, including the use of Rescue, bleach, alcohol-based cleaners, and UV sanitizers as appropriate. Every pet gets a fresh towel after their bath, and a fresh toothbrush for that service.

  5. We change our HVAC filters 12x more often than the manufacturer recommendations, and both salons have HEPA filters in place.

  6. Because we work by appointment, please be on time for drop off and pick up promptly when you receive the ready text. This minimizes any extra time your dog is away from home and eliminates any need to spend time in a kennel.
